Love: Brewery Artwalk and the Academy of Handmade

Lot’s of news to share!

Next weekend is Artwalk at The Brewery in downtown Los Angeles. I’ll be there with my prints and things, Saturday April 26th and Sunday April 27th from 11am-6pm. I’ll be at our usual space Theory Labs showing with friends.  I’ll have all my new work and even some brand new things to share with you! Can’t wait to finish those up this weekend!

The Brewery is located at 2100 North Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90031,  off the I-5 Freeway at Main Street. There is free parking, food trucks and tons of studios and artists spaces to explore! Come on by, say hi and explore the Brewery.  It’s a really fun event and one of my personal favorite events to participate in!

That evening I’ll be at the Academy of Handmade’s Awards event celebrating other artists and makers. If you haven’t heard about the Academy of Handmade it’s a super awesome organization started by Sharon Fain and KC Sears who wanted to honor handmade artists as well as create a professional association for handmade artists and business owners. Through the past year the Academy of Handmade has hosted a number of great workshops and gatherings where I have met other stellar artists and creators in the community. It’s been a blast to watch them grow and put together this upcoming event.  I was even nominated as an Achievement Honoree because I received the most nominations in the category I was nominated in. How sweet is that!

If you’re a maker I highly recommend checking it out. These ladies are kicking some serious ass supporting the handmade community.  Since I’ve become a member I’ve seen them at practically every show I’ve vended at- always with a sunny smile and often happy to offer a bathroom break. They’ve hosted casual gatherings where we talk business and share successes and hardships.  They are also putting together workshops throughout the year so that we can learn more about how to grow our businesses! Thanks ladies, for putting such a great organization together and for putting on what’s sure to be a fun evening celebrating the handmade community!

Ah, and one final thing!  I’ve been accepted as a vendor for Patchwork Long Beach May 25th and Patchwork Santa Ana June 15th shows. These are the only shows I’ll be likely be doing this summer. I’m still knee deep wading my way through some really exciting projects and I really want to focus on making things so I’m trying not to take on too many shows to sell at….which is harder than it looks with such a great line up of shows we have in Los Angeles.  Hopefully by the time the fall shows roll around (and I’ve already committed to a few!) I’ll have these new things I’m working on well in hand and be eager to apply to more shows. For now though I’m busy establishing relationships with some wholesale suppliers and buying supplies like crazy!
