Going: Joshua Tree

This past weekend my fella and I loaded up our car and headed out to the desert! We got a last minute fun opportunity to stay with some friends out near Joshua Tree. I had never been out that way exactly so it made for some fun adventuring to see new things!

We arrived on Thursday night at dusk to hang out with new and old friends. Watching the stars come out and listening to the wind blow across the night.

Friday morning we went to the Joshua Tree National Park.  We drove around, taking tons of pictures of the trees, clambering around rocks and generally being goofy. It was just cool enough to enjoy a fun walk out to Barker Dam. The dam was good and dry for the summer but the surrounding rock formations and lonely Joshua Trees made for beautiful vistas. Later that afternoon we checked out Pappy and Harriet’s which is super awesome. Part old west ghost town, part bar. Yep, check and check on my awesome list. I got thoroughly sidetracked shopping for spurs after cocktails, thankfully the nice dude talked me out of buying some without my boots in hand.

Saturday we got up crazy early again to beat the heat and hit up the Sky Village Swap Meet in Yucca Valley.  I was wearing a pair of boots this go ’round so I was able to get some awesome spurs from Dakota Bob at the swap meet. He has a huge selection of boots and other western wear  I pretty much can’t wait to wear the spurs with all my cowboy boots all the time. The swap in Yucca Valley is an awesome combination of strange, weird and full of magical treasures. I also picked up some really beautiful Indian bead work pieces that I’m going to incorporate into a purse I’ll make. It was heating up and it was only 10am so we hot footed it to the local Sonic for limeades and then a quick stop at the local farmers market before heading back with our friends for pool time and chilling out.

Sunday there was time for one last breakfast supper before we all headed back to our homes. It was such a fun weekend, just enough time to really unwind and enjoy the sights. I’m something of a go, go, go see it all kind of person and there’s really only so much to see out there. The wide open spaces and listening to the wind really slow a girl down. It was great! Here’s some photos of our adventure.
