Making: Paintings and Prints

The New Studio, turning a corner and 2007!
Things are and continue to shift into place at the new studio in Los Angeles.

I really got going in January on the new paintings and I’m very pleased and excited at how those have developed. Now that I have a number of them done I can start to look at them as a group and see what’s happening.

They look like over large pages from my sketch books.

A combination of bill boards, found materials…painting over and adding a layer of age and grime. All of them are loosely themed around a collection of images depicting body parts of animals and humans. A lot of what I’m exploring in the paintings has to do with my own inner dialogue concerning death, frailty, injury, sustenance as well as growth, strength and endurance. I just try to keep up with the seemingly random thoughts and ideas that emerge onto the canvas by combining imagery and paint to create an interesting dialogue.

I’ve also been working on limited edition screen prints, getting the screen printing studio to work properly has been quite the effort and still in progress but so far so good!
